Clemson University Summer Scholars

Summer academic courses geared to high school aged students where you'll find:

- educational, recreational and cultural activities
- evening and weekend activities may include nature study hikes, small group discussions with Clemson faculty, and career and educational guidance
- movies, tennis, swimming, racquetball and trips to University laboratories, the John C. Calhoun House, the S.C. Botanical Garden, the Hanover House and the Clemson Forest.

Summer Scholars balances educational, recreational and cultural activities to enrich the learning experience of rising 7-12th graders. Scholars experience a taste of life as a Clemson University student and spend a week studying specialized subjects. These subjects are:
1. Biology-Forensic Detectives

2. Computer Science and Engineering: Use Arduino and GameMaker to learn how to design and program a 2D video game

3. Beyond ER: Choose either biology or chemistry and learn about it in the medical field

4. Civil Engineering: Study construction management, structural engineering and more

5. Intermediate or Advanced Animal & Medical Science: Use dog and cow cadavers to learn about basic anatomy and the comparative physiology as well as new technology in the veterinary world

6. Bioengineering: Study cell culture histology, atomic force microscopy and bioinstrumentation

7. Biology-Genetic Horizons: Study DNA fingerprinting in the Greenwood Genetics Mobile Lab

8. Automotive Engineering: CUiCAR students work at one of the top automotive engineering and research facilities in the world in Greenville, SC

9. Biology-Molecular Biology: Learn the importance of DNA, RNA, genetic cloning, and biosynthesis

10. Biology-DNA Science: Discover the basics of recombinant DNA, such as restrictions and ligation, and bacterial transformation

11. Exploring the Nano World Through Electron Microscopes: Use state-of-the-art microscopes in Clemson University's lab

12. Physics & Astronomy

13. Debate!: Learn the art of forming an argument

14. Explorations in Architecture (1 or 2 weeks): Take theory classes, a design lab and field trips to Atlanta or Charlotte to learn about the creative process in designing

15. Multi Media Journalism: Explore TV broadcasting and social media through hands-on experience writing news stories and shooting/editing video footage

16. The Academy of Science & Intercultural Communication (1 or 2 weeks): Learn about cultures from Japanese Toho Academy students.
